Michael James Killeen, 76, of Aitkin passed away on Thursday, June 22nd, 2023 in Aitkin. Mike was born December 25th, 1946 in Aitkin, the eldest child of James and Erma (Davies) Killeen. He was a 1964 graduate of Aitkin High School and enlisted in the US Navy in October of that year. He was assigned to the USS Windham County (LST-1170) a tank landing ship transporting troops and equipment during the Vietnam War. After his discharge in December of 1967, he met Patricia Ann Runde from Crosby and they were married October 1968 in the Chapel of Saint Mary’s in Minneapolis. Mike and Pat had two boys, Joseph Scott of Eagan, MN and Thomas Michael of Inver Grove Heights, MN. Mike worked in retail management in Denver, CO for many years before moving back to Aitkin where he worked at the Aitkin County Planning and Zoning Department. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Erma Killeen.
Mike is survived by sister Patricia Killeen, brother Timothy (Judy) Killeen, son Joseph (Naomi) Killeen, grandchildren Conner and Mackenzie, son Thomas (Suzin) Killeen and grandson Taylor. Nephews Matthew Killeen and Kyle (Marci) Killeen, great nephew Maxwell and great niece Emma.
A celebration of life will be held at the Aitkin American Legion Lee Post #86 Thursday, August 10th, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to the Aitkin American Legion Post 86, Aitkin VFW Post 1727, or a charity of your choice.
