Patricia Foster Obituary

Patricia J Foster, 89, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Aitkin Health Services, Aitkin after a decade long struggle with dementia. Patricia was born May 2, 1934 in Cloquet, Minnesota to Joseph Edward Blair and Esther Vivian (Maki) Blair. Much of her early years were spent on Dunlap Island in Cloquet. She was soon joined by sisters Peggy, Kathleen (Faye) and Sandra, together known as the “Blair Girls”. Later the family moved to a farm on the Big Lake Road west of Cloquet. Patricia graduated from Cloquet High School in 1952 and soon started work at Northwest Paper. In June 1953 she married Donald Swanson in Cloquet and in June 1954 was blessed with a son, Michael. The Swanson family moved to McGregor in 1957 where Donald was employed as teacher/coach at the McGregor school. A daughter, Kelly, was born to Patricia in December 1957. While raising her family she also worked in McGregor as a waitress, secretary at church, and in school as a teacher’s aid. Her husband, Donald, passed away from cancer on February 12, 1974. Patricia continued to live and work in McGregor until 1978 when she married Maurice Foster, who was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad in St. Paul, MN and owned lake property in the area. Patricia joined Maurice in St. Paul where she was employed at a temporary agency staffing occasional secretarial openings at various firms downtown. Working for the railroad meant some job transfers to cities Fort Worth, Denver, and finally back to St. Paul, MN. With her husband’s retirement in 1996 they moved to their lake property on Lake Minnewawa near McGregor. Patricia spent much of her retirement years involved with church activities, yard work, home and and craft projects, and traveling. She also enjoyed her time with the grand and great grandchildren in their many activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph in 1984, Esther in 1995, sisters Peggy Johnson in 2014, Sandra Blair in 2022, and Kathleen Faye Marciniak in 2023.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Maurice, son Michael (Nina), daughter Kelly (James) Hover, granddaughters Alison (Imran) Khan, Courtney Hover, Grandsons Michael (Taylor) Swanson, Erik (fiancée Bobbi Jo Schuttemeire), step-grandchildren Chris Trone, Sarah (Will) Garriott, Thor (Brianne) Trone, great-grandchildren Ian and August Garriott, Isa and Ilya Khan, Madalyn Trone, and Raelynn Swanson.
