Peter Landgren Obituary

Peter Charles Landgren, born October 8, 1954, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 13, 2026, at the age of 71. Pete was born in Crosby, Minnesota, to Theodore R. and Vernice (Lowrey) Landgren.

Pete grew up in Aitkin and attended Aitkin Public Schools throughout his school years, graduating with the Class of 1973. He enlisted in the United States Air Force immediately following graduation. Although Pete had known the love of his life, Pam Ince, for many years, they began dating after graduation and were married on July 26, 1975. Their marriage was blessed with two amazing children, Erin and Adam.

Over the years, Pete set many goals for himself—some he met and some he didn’t. We came to know that two of the most important were living to age 70 and being married for 50 years, and he left this earthly life proud to have accomplished both.

Pete enjoyed many things in his life. He was a member of several groups and organizations and loved to plan (and he was very good at it).

In his younger years, he played with the Bare Masonry softball team, Bare Masonry bowling team, and the Block Busters volleyball team.

After two years of active duty, Pete joined the 148th Fighter Wing Minnesota Air National Guard in Duluth, where he served for 22 years. He was also a devoted member of the Aitkin Fire Department for 18 years, serving many of those years as a truck captain. Pete served many years as President and Banquet Chair for the MN Deer Hunters Association. One of his latest—and most cherished—groups was his Monday night card crew, which ran for nearly 11 years. While all of these were near and dear to his heart, his love for hunting and fishing outnumbered them all.

Pete’s love for planning led him, along with numerous family members and friends, on many fishing and hunting adventures across the United States. Of all his out-of-state excursions, his favorites were the trips to White Lake, South Dakota, where he hunted with dear friends he had known all his life. Although Pam was undoubtedly the love of his life, one could make a spirited argument about where hunting—and the Minnesota Vikings—fell on that list.

There were few things that could rival Pete’s love for hunting and fishing, but what mattered most was spending time with friends, family, and the people he loved—especially his grandkids. As a family, we will miss many things that remind us of Pete, including his dedication to making lists, his unwavering loyalty to the Minnesota Vikings, his ability to play the “air piano” on the table, late-night card games, endless favor asking, and the familiar sound of Bonanza or Gunsmoke playing in the background. And we certainly can’t forget pull tabs and going out to eat.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Vernice (Lowrey) Landgren; his sister, Pam (Landgren) Peterson; his father- and mother-in-law, George and Fern Ince; his nephew, Greg Bare; and his niece, Amanda (Anderson) Meyer.

He is survived by many family members who will fondly remember and miss his calls and visits, including his wife, Pam (Ince) Landgren; daughter, Erin (Scott) Melz; son, Adam (Abbey) Landgren; grandchildren, Sienna and Bryden Melz and Makson, Joette, and Marek Landgren; siblings, Mary (Doug) Bare, Ted Landgren, and Pat (Denny) Marolt; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Pat (Bruce) Fisher, Paulette (Jim) Anderson, Peggy (Tom) Lundberg, Priscilla (Brian) Blom, and Mike (Diana) Ince; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom he loved so much.
