Richard Nolander Obituary

Richard Wayne “Dick” Nolander, 78, of McGregor and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, passed away at home on June 16, surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was born in Minneapolis to Wayne and Eleanor (Pearson) Nolander. As a child, he spent summers at his great-uncles’ resort on Bass Lake, now Mt. Olivet Rolling Acres, where he enjoyed swimming, fishing, and duck hunting. He graduated from Washburn High School and the University of Minnesota with a degree in accounting. After several years as a Federal Reserve bank examiner, he spent the remainder of his career in internal audit and retired as Director of Internal Audit at HCMC. He met his wife, Jan, while examining the bank where she worked. They married in July 1976 and raised two daughters, Corrie and Kelsey. Bass Lake remained his favorite place, and when a lot became available in 1980, they bought it and spent many happy weekends there in a mobile home. In 2010, they built their retirement home on the lake and divided their time between McGregor and Fort Lauderdale.

Dick is survived by his wife, Jan; his daughters, Corrie (Ben) Backus and Kelsey (Nelson) Ward; his beloved grandsons, Evan and Connor Backus; his sister, Marlys (Steve) Gebhard; his brothers-in-law, Woody (Carolyn) Smith and Murray (Linda) Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
