Robert LeRoy Mellema

Robert L. Mellema, 75 of Aitkin passed away Friday, August 25, 2023 at his residence.  He was born December 29, 1947 in Aitkin to Otto and Anna (Weistroffer) Mellema.  He graduated from Aitkin High School in 1965.  He was a U.S. Navy serving in the Vietnam War.  Robert worked as a secretary for the United States Department of Defense.  He was an avid outdoorsman and would go hunting and fishing as often as possible.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Lindie Martin.

Robert is survived by his children: Bevanna Mellema and her children: Robert and Mariah;  Tina (David) Fisher and their children: Nickoles and Joshua; Misty (Da`Larial) Ashley and their children: Markia, Sabrina, Da`Shell, Roman and Reiana; Lewis Mellema and his children: Hailey and Ava; Great-grandchildren: Cedar, Myrical and Ivie; brothers and sisters: Julie (Robert) Midthun and Frederick (Julie) Mellema; and many other special relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

Memorial service will be 12pm – Friday, September 15, 2023 at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.  Pastor Dawn Houser will officiate.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Morrison Township, Aitkin County, MN.  Military Honors will be accorded by the Aitkin VFW Roberts-Glad Post # 1727 and Aitkin American Legion Lee Post #86.
