Roger Hasskamp Obituary

In Loving Memory of Roger Paul Hasskamp

Roger Paul Hasskamp, 87, of Aitkin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.  Roger was born September 14, 1938, in the Village of Crosby, MN, to Theodore and Anna (Kant) Hasskamp. He was raised in Aitkin, where he attended school and spent his entire life. On August 22, 1959, he married the love of his life, Donna Mae Tollefson, at First Lutheran Church in Aitkin. Together they shared nearly 67 years of marriage and built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work.  Roger was a gifted carpenter and builder whose craftsmanship can be found throughout the Aitkin area. He worked for Woodland Container, Hanna Mining, and John Koenig Construction before founding Hasskamp Construction, where his son, Ted, joined him at just 15 years old. Over the years, Roger built and remodeled countless homes and businesses, including the Crosby Hospital, Aitkin Village Laundromat, Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, and several local churches, leaving a lasting mark on the community he loved.  His talents extended far beyond construction. Roger had a remarkable ability to create almost anything with his hands, designing and building fine furniture, musical instruments, and even his own boat.

Retirement never slowed him down. At age 86, he crafted the cabinetry for the St. John’s Lutheran Church parsonage, and his final project was a table and chairs built with love for his grandson, a fitting reflection of a lifetime spent creating for others.  Beyond his workshop, Roger found joy in fishing, gardening, and music. A self-taught musician, he played many instruments and even built some of his own. Whether he was casting a line, tending a garden, or making music, Roger approached every hobby with the same patience, skill, and quiet determination that defined his life.

Above all else, Roger's greatest pride was his family. He always put Donna and family before himself, teaching by example the importance of hard work, deep love, and always showing up for the people who matter most. His steady presence, gentle wisdom, and unconditional love will remain one of the greatest gifts that he leaves behind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Anna Hasskamp; his brothers, David and Howard Hasskamp; his grandson, Tyler Pederson; and many dear family members and friends.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; his children, Robert Hasskamp of Unionville, IN; Ted Hasskamp of Aitkin, MN; Susan (Brian) Pederson of Eleva, WI; Maria (Carlos) Castrillon of Eagan, MN; and Greta (Thomas) Rose of Aitkin, MN. He was a proud grandfather to Chris (Kaija) Hasskamp, Nick (Aslyn) Hasskamp, Ella (William) Chandler, Logan Pederson, Connor and Noah Rose, and Andres and Sebastian Castrillon. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Milena, Dawson, Ilo, and Evelyn. Roger is further survived by his sister, Rita Cook and many other special relatives and friends
