Ruth Stofferahn Obituary

Ruth Vivian Stofferahn, 67, of Tamarack, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 3, 2025. She was born to Louis and Florence Anderson and grew up with a zest for life that never faded. Ruth attended McGregor High School, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Marty Stofferahn.

Never one to fit a mold, Ruth preferred being outdoors with the boys over staying inside. In the summertime, she was rarely seen wearing shoes—an image that perfectly captured her free spirit. Perhaps it was that adventurous nature that caught Marty’s eye. The two were united in marriage for 49 wonderful years. Ruth often said Marty looked like Elvis—and, being a lifelong Elvis fan, she was smitten from the start.

Together, Ruth and Marty built a beautiful family, raising four children: Jennifer (Chris) Sutch, Kathy Bassett, David Stofferahn, and Lisa (Joe) Dobson. Ruth was a devoted and proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren—Destiny, Grant, Elizabeth, Jasmine, Allison, Connor, Jollene, Kristopher, William, Ellie, Lucy, and Joshua—and two great-grandchildren, Svetlana and Charlotte, who were her pride and joy.

Ruth is also survived by her siblings Mark (Clarice) Anderson, Peter (Anita) Anderson, Cindy (Ken) Mitchell, and Norman (Kim) Anderson. She will be deeply missed by her large, loving family and many dear friends.

Ruth was known for her kindness, her generous heart, and her deep compassion for others. A lover of romance novels, she could often be found in the evenings with a book in hand. Together, Ruth and Marty dedicated themselves to helping those in need—providing food, shelter, and comfort to people experiencing homelessness, often opening their home to them. They also founded Something Cool, a Christmas program called “WTC Caring Program”, serving families in Tamarack, Wright, and Cromwell, to ensure that every child could experience the joy of the holiday season.

Ruth’s warmth, laughter, and selflessness will be remembered by all who knew her. Her legacy of love and giving will continue to inspire her family and community for years to come.
