Sandra Math Obituary

Sandra Kay Math, 82, of Aitkin, passed away Monday, March 7, 2022 in Cuyuna Regional Medical Center, Crosby.  She was born February 2, 1940 in Aitkin to Gordon and Bernice (Davies) Klingelhofer.  Sandy graduated from Aitkin High School and completed 3 years of college at St. Cloud State.  She was united in marriage to August Math on April 11, 1964 in Aitkin.  Sandy was a bookkeeper and receptionist for over 20 years, starting at Pyrofax Propane Company (which eventually became AmeriGas).  She was also the Hazelton Township Clerk for 44 years.

She enjoyed quilting, knitting, embroidery, cooking, baking, fishing, gardening, playing cribbage, playing guitar, bird watching doing puzzles and especially spending time with her family.  Sandy was passionate about being a great mom to her kids and a second mom to anyone who needed love, advice, hugs or just some good food.  She loved to gather friends and family to honor traditions such as making crocks of sauerkraut, preparing Easter baskets to be hidden, throwing back yard Booyas and teaching others how to bake bread, make lefse or cook a variety of hot dishes.  If you were at any of those events, you might have seen that special twinkle in her eye as she told a story or two.  Did you hear about how she played football in country school, met Augie in 9th grade algebra class, was convinced she was going to drown after tipping the canoe while ricing, or how she was chased by a bull around the 1 room schoolhouse? She fed most Aitkin folks at one time or another in the 80s and 90s during the 17 years that she ran her own catering business. Sandy enjoyed 'cutting a rug' at barn dances, square dancing above the Aitkin Bakery and chair dancing to Funtime Polka Party later in life.  Sandy will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Sandy is preceded in death by the love of her life, August; her parents; great grandchild, August Michael Miracle; 2 sisters, Twila Ecklund and Lorna Hills.

Sandy is survived by 3 children, Lisa (Rachel Banasiak) Math, Sara (José Perera) Math and Jason (Ann Blanchard) Math; 1 honorary adopted son, Greg Rufus (Missy) Boeser; 3 grandchildren, Ken Math, Aydn Math and Oliver Math; siblings, Linda Math and Thomas (Mary) Klingelhofer; 2 grandkitties, SheRa and Floyd; many cherished nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 19 from 11 AM until the 12 PM Celebration of Life in the 40-Club Convention Center, Aitkin.  Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.  To sign the guestbook online, go to:  www.srtfuneral.com.  Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Aitkin.
