Steven Michael Mix

Steven Michael Mix, 71, of Isle – formerly of Mason City, Iowa

died peacefully January 14, 2026 at his cabin in Isle.  He was born February 5, 1954 in Mason City, IA. the son of Vernon Harold and Phyllis Jean (Rose) Mix.  He grew up in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School in 1973.  He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1975 where he was a security specialist and was honorably discharged in 1979 attaining the rank of Sgt.  Steven moved to Isle where he enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing, camping, cooking, grilling and loved spending time with his family and friends especially his faithful companion Bruno.  Through the years after Bruno passed, he had other dogs: Brody and Rowdy, who have also passed.  Recently joining Steve’s family was his dog Rose and cat Pepper.

Steve was a gentle giant and a big hearted man.  He had many fishing stories, loved telling jokes, reading Louis L’Amour novels, watching movies, football, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and being with Rose and Pepper. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Vern and Phyllis, infant brother Randy, brother Larry, grandpa and grandma Mix, grandpa and grandma Rose, and his faithful companions: Bruno, Brody and Rowdy.

Left to cherish his memory are his brother David (Kate) Mix and their children Madison Mix(Ben Kreitlow) and McKayla Mix all of Cedar Falls, IA;

Sister Lori (Mix) Stoltenberg and her daughter Sommer and son Brock Stoltenberg and their father Steve Stoltenberg all of Mason City, IA;

Sister Diana (Mix) Klipping and her daughter Chloe and her father Merle Klipping all of Mason City, IA;

Sister-in-law Mona Hoy (Larry Mix) and her daughter Rhea (B.J.) Anderson and their son Evan (Ehren) Anderson of Alexender, MN, son Ryan (Rane) Mix and their children Lane and Hadley all of Scottsdale, AZ. and Taylor Ott of Scottsdale, AZ.  And many other special relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

Burial with full military honors will be 1pm – Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, Little Falls, Minnesota.  A Celebration of his life will be 3pm – Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Willow Run at 2821  4th Street S.W. Mason City, IA.
