Thelma Tiessen Obituary

Thelma May Brosh was born on June 10th 1942 in Spirit Lake, Iowa the daughter of Wilbur and Ann (Matheson) Brosh. She passed away on April 13th 2025 at Riverwood Healthcare in Aitkin at the age 82.

She attended schools in Estherville, IA and Aitkin, MN. She graduated from Aitkin High School in 1961.

She was united in marriage to her first husband Arthur Rian Jr. on December 23rd 1961. She married her second husband, Joe Tiessen on May 30th, 1984. Thelma was a wife, mother, and homemaker for many years. After that she worked for Yukon Stove in Palisade, MN, Big Sandy Lake Bible Camp in McGregor, MN, and Red Rock Inn in McGregor, MN.

Thelma enjoyed trips to Iowa to spend time with family for many yearly reunions. She also enjoyed get together with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a long-time member of T.O.P.S. where she made many friends. In her later years, she passed the time working in her flower beds and watching the variety of birds at her many feeders.

Thelma is survived by Children Joseph Rian, James Rian, Jean (Kevin) Turnock, Julie (Tim) Nistler, and Suzanne Rian, all of McGregor, MN. 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Brother Ivan (Mariene) Brosh of Estherville, IA. Sisters Marilyn Baas, Minneapolis, MN, Ardell Ehlers, Fairmont, MN, and Sally (Donald) Appel, Aitkin, MN. Brother-in-law Ronald Feger Estherville, IA.  sister-in-law Ella Brosh, Milford, IA. and all of her other kids, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Vernon, Clayton, Clinton, Dennis Brosh. Sisters Thora Grostad, Milly Feger, and Edith Brosh. Brothers-in-law Robert Grostad and David Ehlers. Sister-in-law Beaner Brosh. Nephews Brian and Bruce Brosh. Nieces Jodi and Peggy Brosh. Grandson John Fields Thelma was also preceded in death by husbands Arthur Rian Jr, Joe Tiessen, and special friend Charles Williams.
