Theresa Delores (Silverio) Downer

Theresa Delores Downer, age 85, of McGregor, MN entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at the Villa Vista Care Center in Cromwell, MN.  Theresa was born October 15th, 1934 to Charles and Laura Silverio in Beverly, Mass.  She married Allen Alfred Downer on September 12th, 1954.  She lived on army bases while her husband was in the army.  He retired from the army and they moved to McGregor, MN in 1973.  She worked many years at the Radisson Hotel in Duluth, MN. She also worked at the Aitkin County Human Services along with many other places. Theresa loved wildlife.  She was known by many as the “skunk lady” because of her love for skunks.  She believed that they were God’s creatures and since nobody liked them, she would take care of them.  She fed them and also woodchucks, deer and many other birds and animals.  She would drive her truck up and down her road during hunting season to scare away the deer so they wouldn’t get shot.  She hand dug a pond for the birds to have water and mud to build their nests.  She wrote an article about how the martins are leaving because their habitat is being destroyed.  Theresa was very strong in her faith and it showed when visiting with her.  She would encourage others to seek God.  She is survived by her son and special friend: Charles Downer and Danita Slosson of Duluth, MN.; 2 Grandchildren: Lisa Downer of Lawler, MN and Ryan Olson of Craig, CO; Great Grandchildren: Lilly Downer, Layla Downer, Logan Downer, Lawson Downer, Hattie Olson, Kiah Vasquez, Hannah Vasquez, and Mikah Vasquez, Aden Olson, and special friends, Mike and Laurie Decker.  She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings.  Services will be held at the McGregor Funeral Home on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 10am with Father David Forsman officiating.
