William Borden, II Obituary

William Edward Borden II, 80 of Aitkin died Saturday, August 17, 2019 at his home in Aitkin.  He was born March 3, 1939 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Robert and Helen (Kohn) Borden.  As a child he and his family moved to Canada and lived in Montreal and Winnipeg and then moved to Minnesota where he graduated from Saint Paul Central High School in 1958. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1958 to 1978.  He was stationed mostly in Germany but served 2 tours in Vietnam during the war.  He retired from the Army as Staff Sergeant. William was united in marriage to Mariann Bobseen on January 19, 1973 in Sisseton, South Dakota.  They lived in Savannah, Georgia where William worked for the Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer, and in the Diversion and Transition Centers.  After 20 years he retired as Deputy Warden of Security.  In 1999 he moved from Savannah back to Minnesota and built his home.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Western movies.  He was a member of the American Legion, “TREA” The Retired Enlisted Association, American Military Society, the” F.O.P.” Fraternal Order of Police, and Our Lady of Fatima Church in Garrison.

He was preceded in death by his sister Eleanor F. Vander Wende,

and his parents Robert and Helen (Kohn) Borden.

William is survived by his wife Mariann Borden of Aitkin,

4 Children: Keith E. Borden of Savannah, Georgia,

Wendy R. (Ovidio) Correa of Belton, Texas,

Gwyn M. (Brock) McCloskey of Savannah, Georgia,

Karen E. (Joseph) Vincent of Savannah, Georgia,

6 Grandchildren: Felicia Bagley, Joshua Correa, Kiara Correa, Zachary Stenquist (Cheyanne),

Moira Correa, and Franklin Vincent,

Great-granddaughter: Emma Stenquist,

Sister: Patricia (James) Habeck of Missoula, Montana,

And many other special relatives and friends

 

Funeral service will be 2:00P.M. – Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Garrison.  Father Eli Gieske will officiate.  A lunch will follow the service at the church and then  burial will be in Bennettville Cemetery.  Military honors will be accorded by Aitkin VFW Roberts-Glad Post #1727 and Aitkin American Legion Lee Post #86.  Visitation will be 4 to 7P.M.  Monday with prayers and a time of sharing starting at 6:00P.M. at Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin and will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements are with Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Aitkin.  www.srtfuneral.com
