William ‘Bill’ Monse, 92, of Aitkin, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. He was born June 9, 1931, in Litchfield, MN. to William H. and Amelia (Stueve) Monse. When he was three his father was transferred to Aitkin where he remained a life-long resident. He enlisted in the army in 1950. In 1951 he was stationed to Korea where he was a tank commander and gunner until he was wounded. He was a life-long member of the VFW, a 42 year member of American Legion and served 44 years as a State Fire Warden. On June 9, 1956 in Aitkin William was united in marriage to Marlene Feltman. They had four boys and two girls. He enjoyed working with wood most of his life. He worked for Burt Wilson for a couple of years. Then he went to Northern Timber where he was a sawyer and lead man for 20 years. After he retired, he ran his own sawmill for a many years. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping in his spare time. When he went hunting, his boys would traipse behind him until they were old enough to go by themselves. He was very proud of his kids, and they all did very well for themselves.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Marlene; 2 daughters and son-in-law: Wanda (Lyn) Blakesley and Karen Monse; 4 sons and daughter-in-law: Bill (Cindy), Kevin, Kent, and Jerry; 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers: Victor, Arthur, and Cyril, ‘Stub’ and sisters Dorothy Wright, and Mary Jane Fossum. We appreciate the generous care and help from Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Hospice.
